Kumathang, tucked away in the remote stretches of Ladakh, is a little piece of poetry carved into the mountains. Nestled along the Suru River, this small village lies surrounded by snow-capped peaks that turn golden when the sun rises and purple when it sets. Life here moves to the rhythm of nature, quiet, unhurried, and deeply grounding.

I first went to Kumathang because my dad was posted there, and I was just a first grader then. What felt like an ordinary move turned out to be an extraordinary chapter of my life. The serene silence of Kumathang has stayed with me, like a memory I can close my eyes and return to.

The Suru River flowed right in front of our house, its gurgling waters a constant companion to my childhood. In winter, it snowed so much that the snow piled up till my height, a magical playground for a child.Even now, years later, when I think of the most beautiful place I’ve ever been, it is Kumathang. The mountains stood like gentle guardians, the air was crisp, and every moment there felt like breathing in peace itself.

could relate to feelings you shared about this place. It is actually called ‘khumbu-thang’. Was there at the ‘Navodaya’ for six years of my schooling. Have a lot of memories from there. We used to sneak out of the campus very often and visit the army canteen. Got introduced to dosa there at one such canteen for the first time.
