REWA SUM
An effort to bring trans-Himalayan narratives to the new media world
Rewa, in Tibetic languages, signifies an amalgamation of hope, aspiration, and wish. Sum means three.
We wanted to put together both the words to signify the intent behind this effort as well as the way in which it began. At a subliminal level, all three (sum) of us had hopes (rewa) to do something to preserve our culture. Incidentally all three of us happened to be in the same year in college and got acquainted with each other.
This idea germinated naturally in our stray conversations because of the strong link that we held to our homelands. Due to its cultural distinctiveness, geo-political factors and the pressures of a modern lifestyle, the region faces challenges to preserve its culture. Our vision is to carve out a space for trans-Himalayan narratives within the realm of new media.
We hope to make this a space to share all kinds of experiences and knowledge about trans-Himalayan and Himalayan regions; by both people from within and outside the community. This is a small step, but we hope it can paint a nuanced picture of the various trans-Himalayan regions for all.
